Branch Creek’s Apple Turnovers
Our easy as apple turnovers, one of our go-to recipes for smoko’s during busy times on the farm.
This is very much a wing it kind of recipe- you can adjust the quantities depending on your available ingredients and your preferred taste! The measurements are just a guide.
Ingredients:
For the filling
• Apples. Use some past their best, peeled and chopped (approx. 10 small apples)
• Water, just enough to stop the apples burning to the pot (about 1/2 cup)
• Cinnamon, to taste (about 1/2 tsp)
• Branch Creek Honey, to taste (about 2 Tbsp)
The pastry
• Flaky puff pastry, store bought or make your own. We generally use store bought - the Pams brand works a treat!
For the glaze
• 1 egg, beaten
• 1 Tbsp of Branch Creek Honey, mixed with the egg
Method:
In a medium sized saucepan, add all ingredients and cook the apples down to your desired consistency.
Cut your pastry into squares. If using store bought then each piece of pastry makes four turnovers.
Add a dollop of apple mix to the square of pastry, fold over and press the edges down with a fork.
Brush your egg/honey glaze over the top, poke a few holes with the fork and bake at 180 degrees until golden brown.
Serve either hot or cold & enjoy!
